Lucketts 2016

We had a great adventure last weekend...

I had the pleasure of spending the day with my daughter and 2 best friends...

We drove to Leesburg, Virginia for the Lucketts Spring Market.

The weather was wet and overcast but there was still so much to see.

My daughter and I loved this new vendor.

She upholsters vintage chairs with everything from vintage fabric to leather and cowhides....

Mmmmmm....We loved her style.

I am gearing up at home for a studio makeover and a chair like this is on my wish list....

The leather and cowhide is probably my favorite but it was so hard to pick one.

They were all fabulous!

This fun garden art is on my radar for a few windows I have laying around...

 This tepee is always somewhere in the market....

Maybe this year I will make my own version...

There is just so much good stuff we could have taken thousands of pictures...

My daughter and I were in love with those bottles...

They are covered in barnacles...

Old ladders and tin ceiling tiles turned into a screen caught our eye and imaginations...

And check out that cool chandelier at the base of the ladder...

We found what had to be the prettiest cookies ever at this booth....

Sky's the Limit is her company name.

We each got a camper cookie and they tasted as good as they looked.

I have to make something like this great pallet display.

How awesome would that be outside the studio/shed?

It was a wet, chilly but fun day.

There is always so much to see.

I always leave with my head swimming with ideas.

I will have to share my finds later.  

Sadly, they cancelled the second day of the show due to wet and muddy conditions.

I am so glad we got there to enjoy it when we did...

The Button Bargain Bonanza...

Well, hello!

It seems like every post I have been doing has been giveaway related.

I love doing that, but I have been crazy trying to do a ton of other things so the blog has taken a hit.

I will try to get back on track. 

At the beginning of September, my husband and I went on our yearly date to a large flea market in the area.

The day was dark and it was raining...a lot.

We put on our raincoats and rubber shoes and put extra garbage bags in the wagon for purchases.

Off we went.

In the 4th booth we looked in, I hit the jackpot.

I found 2 boxes of zinc and glass canning lids, a hardware organizer full of vintage jewelry, a big pile of silver trays, a wooden soda crate filled with vintage bottles and what I about to show you next.

The two guys in the booth pointed out that under the table, there was a basket filled with sewing stuff.

Here is some of what was in the basket...

So, I love little things that tell a story.

Who was Ruth?

Why did she have to write her name on her sewing box?

We will never know, but her little label will stay there as long as I own the tin...

It was filled with mostly thread.

There are some old wooden spools but there are also some modern plastic ones so Ruth was still buying supplies...

This tin is adorable in itself...

Why don't we make such charming packaging anymore?

Then there were these 2 Ritz cracker tins....

There was some damage from something that was set on the can at one point.

Maybe a glass of sweet tea in the sewing room....

This one was filled with buttons still on their cards and all sorts of vintage sewing notions.

There was a plastic container of thread on spools too.

All of that and a great basket that they were packed in for....

you are never going to believe this....

my husband could not even say "you already have enough buttons!" for this price...

$3!

Yes.

No joke.

So it was a very good day...

Even though we got soaked to the skin and pretty muddy.

We had fun together too...

Thrifty Thursday~ Score!

I stopped by the thrift store last week for a quick drop off.

In and out.

That was the plan.

In the back room where they sort and price stuff,  I saw these goodies when I carried in my donations.

Six thread racks.

$1 each.

And a package of really big coffee filters for 50 cents.

I did not come home empty handed....

WooHoo!

Three of the racks are regular size dowels for spools and three are extra big.

I am not sure yet where they will go.

Maybe in the studio.

Maybe in the booth this fall to hold something.

I'll let you know....

A Ceiling Tin Memo Board for the Dorm...

Early this summer while junking together, my daughter found this ceiling tile.

I bought it for her so she could turn it into a memo board for school.

She has scrubbed it several times with a brass brush to remove the loose paint.

I liked it the way it was but she was determined to add some color to it.

Here is the back...

It is gorgeous too.

Krylon Paint sent us the paint and sealer to complete the project.

We used the Color Master Cover Max Paint and Primer in Sea Glass.

At first she was worried she might have to go buy another can, but as she added her light coats, she liked how it was working.

You can still see some of the flaking paint looks loose.

She scrubbed it several times before painting.

She changed her angle often because there was so much texture to the tin.

I tried to take a picture after each coat.

I believe she did 3-4 light coats and let them dry 10 minutes to an hour between coats.

We set it up an a bucket so the overspray did not get all over the grass.

Once she was satisfied with how it looked ( we actually have some left in the can), she sprayed the whole thing with Krylon Color Master Clear Flat.

She is really liking the whole chalky finish look right now.

I was not sure how it would turn out, but it looks great.

Those loose paint flakes are not even noticeable now...

She took it to school with her and her Dad hung it over her bed. 

 The tile had little holes along the edge where it was originally attached to the ceiling so he just screwed it to the wood wall strip above her bed.

It looks awesome and it should not fall on her in the night....

What a great dorm decor project for my BoHo girl....

Bonus Points For the Husband!

My husband called from work at lunch time.

His friend had some things he was going to sell and thought I might be interested.

So I hopped in the car and headed over.

What did he have, you ask....

3 boxes of chandelier crystals...

I am not kidding.

Would I be interested?

YES!!!

I forgot to take pictures of the boxes before we unwrapped them.

But here they are after....

Lots of the long dangly ones.

I have never had any of these....

I am thinking they will make amazing Christmas ornaments.

And I am making a couple wind chimes for the fellow that sold them to me for his mom and grandma.

One whole box was the smaller pieces.

They are all pretty grubby.

They have been in those boxes for a very long time in someone's basement.

Since the 1950s or so....

I know that because as I was unwrapping them I noticed the newspapers they were wrapped in...

They were almost as much fun as the crystals...

After we unwrapped them all, I read my husband the papers.  

Here are some of my favorites. 

 I did my best with the photos.  

They were so old and brittle.

 I really wanted to save them.

The daughter supposedly stole a candy bar from the grocery  and Mom used a little too much corporal punishment to discipline her...

Can't say that would be a bad idea now.

This new-fangled dishwasher seems like more work to hook up and load and unload than washing the dishes would be.
