Mason Jar Monday #4 Sweet Treats in a Rosette Snowman Jar

It's that time again....

Today's Mason Jar Monday is simple and sweet.

I used a vintage jar and zinc lid.

I made 3 white muslin rosettes.

My muslin is from thrift store sheets. 

 I buy the ones they call "drop cloths" because of a stain or two....

There are tutorials all over the place for making the rosettes.

Essentially start with a strip of muslin.

  I like torn edges.

Tie a knot on one end.

Start to wrap around the knot and turn it every so often.

For these, I actually stitched them every couple of wraps but you could glue them.

I made them three different sizes: 1 for the head, and 2 for the body.

I stitched all three together.

I added a little strip of stained cheesecloth for the scarf.

I like the ratty bit of primitive it adds...

Then I glued mine on to  the side of the jar.

I only used a couple dots of glue so I can take it off later.

I filled mine with peppermint marshmallows but you can use anything you want.

It would make a great gift or just look great on your counter to hold goodies....

Cinnamon Stick Star Ornament Tutorial

Today I am sharing this quick and easy Christmas Ornament.

Gather your supplies.

For me, this is not included in the 15 minutes and often takes longer than the actual craft does....

Arrange your cinnamon sticks into a star shape.

I tacked mine at the points with hot glue to hold in place.

Wrap each point with jute and tie it off with a knot.

I wrap and tie mine right from the jute spool and then I only have to trim a bit of the one end.

I used a bleached bottle brush type wreath for one star and a little handmade wreath for the other.

Trim your garland rope to make a wreath.

I had mine use two loops of garland with and inch overlap to wrap around.

Then just hot glue it to the star.

I used two pieces of jute to make a little bow as well and then glued that on.

Cut one more piece of jute to make a hanger loop and you are done.

I love the simplicity of this ornament.

You could make enough for everyone on your gift list in just an evening.

You can't go wrong with naturals for Christmas.

These would also make sweet gift toppers.

I think they would look especially nice on a package wrapped simply with brown kraft paper.

Or even on a brown paper bag folded over.

I actually bleached this wreath out this summer.

I had a pile of them I got on clearance last year after Christmas.

I removed the gold string and red bow and replaced it with a jute one.

I did notice the last time I was shopping at the craft store that you can buy them already bleached.

Some were even dyed a sweet pink.

I picked up a few little trees for an upcoming project.

I don't have my tree up yet, but I have been thinking about it....

Does that count?

Since I don't have my tree up yet, I used a tree outside for the photos....

Maybe this year I should decorate these outside trees...

There are actually about 6 of them...

Ummmm...

Winter Wool Fun

Nothing says "Winter" to me like wool.

I love it and always have.

I just wanted to share a couple recent projects made with my favorite fiber...

These soft wool bangles are a cinch to make.

I used wool yarn and a Nifty Knitter Loom to make them. 

Then I felted them in the washing machine when I did laundry.

A quick tip is to place small items you are felting in a nylon stocking to wash.  

I usually place as many as I can in one stocking and tie a knot between items.

They are so comfortable and would make a great project for Christmas gifts.

I love them as they are but you could fancy them up with some beads and fibers....

Next is one of my favorites..

This sweet little owl bag is a great example of recycling at its finest...

A sweater, some buttons, a belt and wool skirt scraps turned into this...

It is the perfect size for keys, phone and small wallet...

I do sell or give away most of what I make, but every now and then there is something I cannot bear to part with.

This little owl bag is one of those things.

I like this little candle mat too.

The sunflowers were cut from felt and the centers were glued on.

Then I stiffened them with glue, coffee and cinnamon.

Then just a couple quick stitches attached them to the double layer candle mat which actually came from a thrift store skirt.

It is the perfect fall and winter candle mat.

And here is one last woolen treasure.

This primitive owl is also created from thrift store woolens.

I love stitching by hand while watching tv.

It is so relaxing....
