Crepe Paper Streamer and Cinnamon Stick Ornaments

You may remember before Christmas I did a couple cinnamon stick ornaments.

This one had a handmade wreath.

And this one had a little bleached bottle brush wreath.

The tutorial for making them is here.

Today I wanted to show you a few I made with crepe paper rosettes.

I must confess...I love rosettes.

When I start making them, I make tons.

I use some right away and save some for projects down the road.

That is what happened here.

I have an extensive collection of colors.

Seems like that is something that frequently ends up at yard sales, thrift stores and flea markets.

I never pass up a roll or two at a good price.

To make mine, I actually hand sew the crepe paper.

I gently pull the thread to gather it and tie it off.

Then I glue the two ends together.

I give mine a spin in some glue and a roll in mica flakes.

I find the easiest way to do this is to place some white glue in a plastic container lid.

I hold the rosette so just the edge gets rolled in the glue.

Then the mica flakes are in another bowl I roll it in.

I find that to be the fastest and easiest way for me.

This crepe paper is actually two toned.

I die cut or punch a shape from vintage sheet music and roll the edges in glue and mica as well.

Sweet...

You can see this one has a mottled look on the sheet music...

One of those cool accidents.

I had these on my front covered porch waiting to be photographed.

We had some windy snow showers.

Apparently the snow blew in on these  and where they got wet, the color bled through from the crepe paper.

It happened to this one too.

This one actually has two different pieces of crepe paper sandwiched together.

I adore the vintage look of these pieces.

I hope you like them too...

Christmas Banner in A Mason Jar Gift

Recently I jumped at the chance to do a Mason Jar gift.

I am a long time admirer of Angie from The Country Chic Cottage  and she wanted to do a round up.

I have a passion for mason jars and pick them up every chance I get so I figured this would be easy.

But then I did the typical me thing....

I come up with half a dozen ideas for Mason jar gifts and could not decide on one.

So I am showing you one today and I plan to share one every Monday from now until Christmas in a feature I will call Mason Jar Monday.

Here is today's Jar gift.

A Christmas banner in a jar.

The jar is not the star of the show this time.

The banner is.

It is fast and easy to make.

The perfect gift to make in multiples.

Gather some supplies:

I used an old hymn book from a book sale

scissors

a stapler

scrap red paper

some green twine

buttons

and a Sharpie marker.

Remove pages from the hymn book and trim the edges.

I cut my pages into roughly fourths.

Then I clipped a triangle out of the bottom of each piece.

I did spend some time in the studio searching for a fast easy way to do letters.

Of course the search took longer than it would have to just get started.

So I decided to just use a marker and do them free hand.

That is more fun anyway.

I used a large flower punch to punch out a few red flowers.

I folded the top of each piece of paper over and stapled it onto some green jute twine.

I stapled the red flowers between the letters and glued a button over the staple.

I spelled Merry Christmas, but you could do any word or phrase you want.

To make the rosette, remove three more pages from the hymn book.

Use the Stampin' Up Simply Scored board to score the paper about every half inch.

Accordian fold the pages.

Fold the pages in half and glue three of them together.

Add another red punched flower to the front and top with a button.

Pile your banner pieces up and stack them so you can slide them in your mason jar.

I used a wide moth quart jar.

I also added two glittered clothespins to hang the banners.

Then I wrapped the lid with more twine.

Glue your rosette to the lid.

If you would like the recipient to be able to use the rosette as a decoration or ornament, do not glue it on.

Instead use sticky dots so it can be removed later.

It would be a special gift to make a family's name and the date they got married or moved into a new house.

You could make sweet first name banners for a child's room or a new baby.

But I made a Christmas banner for this one.

And because I did not have anyplace in my house ready for a christmas banner, I displayed it in the garden.

I love this little woodland vignette outside my shed.

The large piece of slate was from a school house.

It was given to me by a friend of my husband.

The concrete mushroom and planter I made several summers ago.

The tree mushrooms were cut by my husband when a tree blew down in the yard last summer.

Hope you enjoyed my little Mason Jar gift.

Baby Shower Rosettes

Soon, one of my co-workers is expecting her first baby.

We recently threw her a surprise shower at work.

I volunteered to make some decorations.

I made these large rosettes in shades of blue.

I was not sure how they will be displayed at the shower and maybe later at her home.

I did not want to punch any holes in them.

I also wanted to leave the centers so my friend could personalize them any way she wanted.

Maybe with the baby's name.

Or pictures of the baby.

Or pictures of the family or parents...

Or maybe with images that will fit the nursery theme.

So I used these teeny tiny clothespins to hang them.

Each rosette uses two 12" x 12" sheets of scrapbook paper.

I cut each sheet in half and then made marks to fold every 1/2 inch with my Stampin' Up Simply Scored Board.

Then I accordian folded all 4 pieces and glued them end to end for one long strip.

Then I glued the ends of the strip together and pushed the circle down firmly until the rosette forms.

I use 2 large circles that I punched from coordinating card stock and glued one to the front and one to the back.

Easy Peasy.

My friend really liked them.

They were very festive and helped to dress up our location for the shower.

I think I will make some other sets for upcoming celebrations as well.
