Collections in the Greenhouse

Hello there!

I recently shared the cleaning of the greenhouse.

I would like to say "annual" but it doesn't always work that way.

Anyway, I am loving that the space is clean now.

I wanted to share a few close-ups of some of the collections of things that live in my greenhouse.

My daughter would question why some of them would be in a greenhouse...

But since it is my space, I can put whatever makes my heart sing in there....

Under the potting bench my husband built for me many years ago, most of my clay pots are now hanging out together.

I don't think I need any more pots for quite a while...

For now, my two chicken wire dress forms are here.

Once the flower beds are clean, I will take them out and let them dance in the sunshine among the flowers.

I love vintage bottles.

Some I buy.

Some I find.

Some are given to me.

I have them scattered all over.

Here are a few in the green house.

I love these little decorative birdhouses.

I don't remember where I got them.

I bought a whole pile of them and they still make me smile.

They are tucked throughout the greenhouse.

More bottles and another birdhouse.....

A couple metal watering cans...

Every greenhouse needs watering cans.

My husband built this little bird feeder many moons ago.

I painted the tiny daisy slate...

And look!

Another little bird house!

Most of these flower frogs came from the thrift store...

I bought a whole shoe box full for $3, I think.

I add new ones as I find them....

Glass insulators, seeds and plant markers...

More vintage bottles...

A step back to see the shelves above and below...

That little wooden box was found at a yard sale.

It is still one of my favorite things.....

  Not sure why...

 The color?

 Those sweet little hooks?

I painted the pansy slate too.

More flower frogs and a few glass goodies I use as plant cloches...

A cheese cover and a few lamp light pieces.

A few seashell collections live in the greenhouse too.

While my daughter would question why they are there, it makes perfect sense to me.

Sometimes I add the shells in the garden.

I either tuck them in under the plants or line a bird bath with them.

My nephew is also a collector and he gave me some of his seashells.

They are among my treasures.

So there is a closer peek at some of the treasures in the green house for now.

Thanks for stopping by...

Cleaning the Greenhouse....

Seems like it has  been a very busy spring.

I knew it would be so I decided to tackle one project at a time.

The first was my green house.

A couple years ago I shared my clean up with you.

Well, a lot of stuff got piled in here last summer and fall.

Watch out!

Scary!

So the first weekend I carried everything in the middle out.

Sadly, I did not get done.

A storm was coming with 50 mile an hour wind gusts and rain so I covered the pile and hoped for the best.

I did not want to have to carry it all back in and back out again...

I had piled some pots to donate behind my shed.

The winds tossed them about a bit...

Round 2!

I had put some things back in that I did not to get wet.

So I started by carrying them out again....

I did make a couple dents in organization last weekend.

My husband always suggests going vertical when you need more space or storage.

Those little chairs were made by my great grandfather and I used them as a child.

My sweet husband helped to organize and move our tools.

My goal is to keep it neat but just in case....

The tools will be ready to grab right inside the door.

The space on the floor in front of them will be kept clear except for my little rolling cart.

Work continues...

Now that is a welcome site!

These shelves have not been clean in forever....

They are ready for some plants to be started...

I am thinking herbs this year...

I cleaned off my display shelves...again.

Pared down a few things.

It could use another go around for cleaning out but it is getting better.

We save pitchers and bottles for flower arrangements for the fair.

Again, to maximize storage, go UP....

The plant shelves look better.

Underneath I got rid of a bunch of stuff.

Now my extra glass scraps are there along with some pots.

This wall is much better.

I sorted through my books and kept my favorites.

There is a great mix of informational and some fun junking books.

My hat collection from high school is in here on the wall.

I also have my flower frogs on the shelves.

The green laundry bags up high hold light botanicals that I collect: pine cones, gourds, pieces of bark....

I gathered most of my clay pots in one spot.

Now they are handy and lovely under the potting bench my husband made me about 20+ years ago.

This is the cleanest the top has been forever.

Room to plant.

Or dream...

Or ponder...

Here are the display shelves from the other side.

I don't waste any space...

Above the door there are a few glass bottles.

I ended up putting one of the chairs I showed you before back here.

When I hung up some more bags of pine cones, the chair did not fit.

My chicken wire dress forms will sit here until I get them out into the garden.

I have to start cleaning out the flower beds next.

Later I will show you a few of the collections that get stored in my green house.

Thanks for stopping by...

Cleaning the Greenhouse

I have been having some computer woes...

So I am going to finally publish some posts that have been waiting in the wings....

This is one of those posts...

You can tell from the photos that this was done a couple months ago....

Here goes...

It seems like this summer flew by especially fast.

Usually in the spring I clean out my green house so I can use it all summer.

This summer it just did not happen.

I decided to get it done so I can use it next spring, though.

The far door and the window are my green house.

It was here when we bought the house but it had nothing in it but some junk.

My husband built the little stoop in front of the door and we added the window.

Normally I keep the stoop free of weeds.

I will do better next year.

Ok, get ready.

I am going to open the door and show you the inside.

Warning!

It is NOT good.

Sheesh!

What I did not show you was this huge sheet of cobweb that completely went from one side of the door to the other...

I used a stick to take it down.

My daughter shudders to think of the size of the spider that made that.

Ok.

So there is lots of work to do here.

Step one...carry the stuff out...

I try to put it in piles...

Last summer my daughter did this part.

She has a special organizing system for the piles.

"One (small) pile of tools and things you would expect to see in a greenhouse."

"That huge pile is things that have no idea why it would be in a greenhouse..." she said.

I still chuckle when I think about her categories...

You can see not much has changed to the untrained eye.

To a junker, any of it could end up in the greenhouse or garden.

Some things are going to the thrift store.

There are 3 bags of plant trays and pots that will go to the local high school for their green house.

A few things will head down to the burn pit...

This was part of my problem.

We have a leak in the seam along the roof.

Over the years water has come in and damaged the shelves on the wall.

You can see one has completely fallen down up next to the chair.

So I had to remove the shelves that were rain damaged.

Recently a friend gave my husband a couple wire shelves so I took down enough of the shelves to make the new shelves fit.

There is actually room for my old cooler on the shelf now.

I restacked and moved things on the shelves just a bit.

Most of this is the kind of stuff my daughter thinks does not belong in a green house.

She is probably right.

But I like it in MY greenhouse.

The picture below is before the reorganization.

So is this one.

My books and magazines are here.

I am getting rid of some of them though....

You can never have too many little pots...

Here is one shelf after the reorganization.

Hey, here is the tin ceiling tile I got with my daughter this summer.

Mine is bigger than hers was.

I can add magnets to keep important seeds, notes, planting plans, etc...

You can see my daughter's makeover of hers here.

The books are thinned out.

I only kept my favorites.

It is looking sleeker and more organized.

I feel like I want to get rid of some things but I want to wait until spring and see how I feel then.

Now the tools are hanging and looking tidy.
'
I can actually find what I need.

Whew....

Just in time to fill it again...
