Halloween Craft Lightning

It is time for another Craft Lightning.

I love Craft Lightning.

This time is Halloween crafts.

So I made a cute little pumpkin luminary from a glass jar from the recycling bin.

Let's gather supplies.

Paper towel

clean glass jar

Scissors

Masking Tape

Silver spray paint

solar light

(You don't need the spray bottle of water for this if you use this kind of paint).

Let's get started.

Cut the face shapes from your masking tape and put them on the jar.

Also tape off the top of the solar light where it catches the light.

Wrap the edge of the solar light with masking tape until it fits snugly in the top of the glass jar.

Flip it over and tape off the light bulb and the area underneath.

Spray paint your jar. 

 You can re-coat quickly with this paint.

Allow 2 hours to dry.

Paint the solar light too.

Once it is dry, remove the tape pieces from the face.

Also remove the top and bottom tape from the solar light.

Tuck the solar light into the top and you are ready to go.

A Spooky Doorside Vignette

We have a party coming up soon.

I decided to pull together some of my recent projects to create a spooky vignette outside our door.

You might recognize some of the elements.

The hydrangeas came from my parents this summer and appeared on my workbench one Wednesday.

The Spider Spells book is a favorite and will end up a variety of places throughout the years I am sure. 

 When I have time, I will make additional volumes as well.

Here is one of the Candy Corn Gltter jars with the rice light strand inside....

The spooky branch was actually a paracord display my husband made for my daughter's paracord bracelets.

I repurposed it by adding stained cheese cloth webs.

When I was making glittered candy corn jars, I made a bottle brush tree as well.

The spooky spiders add a nice little touch...

I can't wait to see if anyone at the party notices...

The battery operated candles are a nice safe touch for any where.

I love vignettes that are spooky but fun.

Makes me want to sit in the rocker and enjoy the crisp fall air...

After I had done most of my photos, my mercury glass votives were finally dry so I added them as well.

First Fall Show

I had my first fall show last weekend.

It's the biggest I do anymore.

Thought I would show you a little bit of the booth.

It was super busy right away Saturday so these photos were actually taken Sunday morning.

I love the sheer curtains.

  I feel like they look a little different than other  booths.

My trunk of pumpkins up front is one of my favorite display pieces. 

 This is the only show I use it for.

It is quite large.

There are all kinds of pumpkins in it...

Sweater pumpkins, burlap pumpkins, fancy pumpkins...

My favorites right now are the fairy tale pumpkins...

So frilly and lacy and fun.

Some have sweet tags added.

Some have a touch of mica glitter for frost on the pumpkin...

There was lots of jewelry.

I love this long wooden tray I found. 

 It looks great with bracelets in it.

I set it on top of the open trunk lid.

fabric, clay, beads, leather...

This wooden tray is filled with washi tape bracelets and rose bangles.

Stamped heart charms  fill a silver pedestal.

I used to have old shutters along the back of the booth side and I hung necklaces on those.

Things got tangled and occasionally the shutters fell or blew over even though they were clamped to the table.

So I changed it up this year.

Necklaces were put individually or in sets on old book covers that were discarded after a book sale.

Then I nestled them in old suitcases.

Trays and other displays held key chains and necklace charms.

In the center of the booth, I tried a couple spinning racks I bought from a fellow crafter last year.

They were perfect for snowmen, jars and such.

The other side of the booth is the primitive country side.

There is some jewelry and such mixed in.

The crates are from a local orchard.

I always have too much stuff to do perfect vignettes in the crates...  

Someday...

 This spinning card rack was a freebie from a local shop that is no longer open.

It perfectly holds my handmade cards.

I did another show this weekend but it was so cold and windy I did not take any photos.

Luckily, the next two shows are inside.

Books Transformed to Pumpkins, Apples, Cats and Snowmen...

My first fall show is coming up in a few weeks.

My booth has been an eclectic mix for the past 18 years.

Primitive holiday accents, wool candle mats and runners, reinvented purses, handmade cards, scarves fashioned from t-shirts, fabric, fleece and yarn, banners, and lots and lots of quirky jewelry.

 Last year I made some book pumpkins.

I also made a few other shapes but they had been stored flat for a year so I wanted to fan the pages out.

You can see them all  lined up on my old toolbox bench here.

I love the cat and have never seen one other than this one I made.

He still needs a pretty little bow for his neck and a witchy tag.

Maybe he needs a witchy little hat too...

My snowmen are some of my favorites.  

This little guy needs a homespun scarf and a felt hat.

The pumpkins I draw freehand so each one is different.

Some get a black bath for the page edges.

Some get an orange dip.

He has his bow but needs a spooky tag.

The apples are my favorites.

The perfect fall accent or teacher's gift.

There are several great things about these book shapes.

Each uses the pages from a discarded or damaged book.

I use the covers for other projects.

They store flat until the next year.

Just pinch the pages so they are flat and keep in your holiday box.

There is a trick for the best way to plump out the pages....

Several squirts of a water bottle on the pages and then some time to dry in the sun. 

 Repeat as necessary....

I have one of these in the Etsy shop and may be adding more this fall.
