A Peek Inside Prims and a Giveaway....

One of my favorite styles to create is Primitive Country.

I have been making my own style of primitive country for years. 

I sell a lot of that style locally at festivals and shows.

So I am over the moon to share that I am within the pages of the current issue of Prims from Stampington and Company.

It is a great issue for fall and winter.

Let's peek at a few inspiring projects within this issue.

There are so many cute characters.

I am going to make some of these great pumpkins and turkeys from Renee Tousignant.

I love the simplicity of her designs.

This fabulous ghost would look haunting on anyone's front door.

Angela Clark Prater is brilliant.

This little primitive pumpkin gal is just the right amount of sweet from Trudy Honeycutt...

There are pieces from Chuck McClenning that look like authentic vintage Halloween pieces.

 Once I refine my skills, I may attempt something as fabulous as this cat from Carly Smith.

If you are already thinking winter, have no fear...

There are plenty of those too.

Like these little guys from Char Hosea.

Or this little guy that utilizes a recycled can from Heather Ledyard Hodges.

I am definitely going to work on some pieces that this project will inspire.

And nestled in the gallery pages are these little guys and gals...

Made from socks.

Really....

How do I know?

I made them....

And here they are...

I am over the moon proud.

I made this little block snowman too.

A Spooky Doorside Vignette

We have a party coming up soon.

I decided to pull together some of my recent projects to create a spooky vignette outside our door.

You might recognize some of the elements.

The hydrangeas came from my parents this summer and appeared on my workbench one Wednesday.

The Spider Spells book is a favorite and will end up a variety of places throughout the years I am sure. 

 When I have time, I will make additional volumes as well.

Here is one of the Candy Corn Gltter jars with the rice light strand inside....

The spooky branch was actually a paracord display my husband made for my daughter's paracord bracelets.

I repurposed it by adding stained cheese cloth webs.

When I was making glittered candy corn jars, I made a bottle brush tree as well.

The spooky spiders add a nice little touch...

I can't wait to see if anyone at the party notices...

The battery operated candles are a nice safe touch for any where.

I love vignettes that are spooky but fun.

Makes me want to sit in the rocker and enjoy the crisp fall air...

After I had done most of my photos, my mercury glass votives were finally dry so I added them as well.

Candy Corn Glitter Tealights

  I have this idea for awhile and finally got all the bits and pieces together to get it done.

First I gathered and washed some glass jars and bottles.

I taped off the tops and the middles of each bottle.

Now the fun stuff...glitter and glue...

A shudder from my husband at this point...

He is not a fan of glitter...

Starting with the bottoms I brush the glue on and cover with yellow glitter.  

This yellow glitter hd some texture to it.

Then I glittered the tops with white glitter.

Carefully remove the tape from the center.

I added orange glitter to the middles and sprayed with a light coat of Krylon clear coat to hold everything in place.

I wrapped the tops of each bottle with some twine.

  Then I added lights.

This little frappachino bottle got a strand of rice lights.

And this little jar has a battery operated tea light.

I will show you more of this vignette soon.

Spider Spells Book Tutorial

I have been wanting to make a Spider Spells book for some time.

Actually, I had started the book last summer and recently found it when cleaning.

I just started with a discarded hardcover book with a plain cover.

I hate to cover amazing graphics with paint.

Using my hot glue gun, I wrote "Spider Spells" and drew my spider.

Once it cooled and hardened, I added a second layer on the spider's body for dimension.

And a second layer for the eyes.

If you look close, this fella only has 7 eyes....

Sorry.

A layer of Americana DecoArt Chalky Finish paint in Carbon is added to the front and back.

Because I was dry brushing more color I was not worried about perfect coverage.

I dry brushed some Whisper Chalky Finish paint on also by DecoArt.

I love dry brushing.

I load a bit of paint into the bristles, swirl out most on a paper towel and then work the paint where I want it.

I increase pressure as the paint becomes fainter.

I also gave it a light brushing of Chalky Finish Remembrance.

I love purple and black for Halloween.

I like the outside but thought the pages looked too new.

Time to "drop it in a mud puddle" as my daughter says....

I mixed my witchy aging brew.....coffee, cinnamon and hot water...

Looks bubbly amd spooky....

Then a dunked all the pages in the aging bath.

I wiggled it around a bit to make sure all the edges got wet.

Then I took it out and put it on a tray in the sun.

I checked every few hours and fanned pages to get them dry and wrinkled looking.

Now  it makes the perfect accent for Halloween.

It looks great with some spooky spiders and stained cheesecloth.

I think I will make a whole library...

I like spooky but not scary.

This is just right for me...
