Anchors Away Multi-strand bracelet

I make a lot of jewelry.

Many of the pieces get submitted to magazines.

Some get sold.  

Some I give away.

Occasionally I make a piece for me.

To wear.

This bracelet I made specifically for me.

It is multi-strand which I love...

It gives me the look of piling on a armful with just one piece.

I wear this one all the time.

I love the beads that dangle on the ends too.

How can you go wrong with silk, clay, pearls and waxed linen cord?

Workbench Wednesday...Washing Buttons

How about a quick peek of what I am working on this week...

I dumped a tin of vintage buttons in a hosiery bag and dunked it repeatedly in a bucket of hot water and Dawn dish washing detergent.

Then I rinsed, and rinsed and rinsed...

I dumped them into a strainer purchased just for such purposes (i.e. crafty stuff)...

Then I spread them out on a plastic tray and let them dry....

I ran my hands through them over and over...

I tell myself it is to spread them out to dry better...

Really it is because I have to touch them....

Touching them brings me happiness...

My heart tells stories of each button as my fingers touch them...

Next step is letting them become something new....

Bohemian Convertible Necklace Bracelet Set

Last year  Jewelry Stringing magazine  did a feature on convertible jewelry.

That is not jewelry you wear with your top down.

Instead it was jewelry that has interchangeable parts.

I was fascinated.

So I had to make something of my own like that.

So here are the three pieces.

All three can be worn together for a layered necklace.

Or you can take one of the colorful pieces off.

Or switch to the other one.

The back part of the necklace can be worn as a wrap bracelet alone.

Or you can stack on one of the other colorful ones.

Or both.

Or just wear the two colorful pieces together as bracelets.

Or each one can be worn alone.

Since I used all my hand made clasps, all the pieces work together and can be added as you choose.

I love this idea and will surely be creating more designs with this versatility....

Safari Necklace

It has been awhile since I shared something my daughter has made.

Since it is Mother's Day, it seemed the perfect time for a mom to brag.

My daughter made this piece over a year ago.

I love the details and texture of the piece.

She made it months before she actually went to South Africa.

Life can be funny that way...

Whispers of what is to come....

She spent a month in South Africa last summer.

While there she went on a horseback safari...

She also did a lot of shark research which is her passion.

I love her little hand formed link chain...

I hope you are creating things that whisper of your future too.

April is Amulet month!

At least it is over at Art Jewelry Elements.

I was one of the lucky winners.

This sweet little thing came in the mail....

Now, I have to admit....the whole reason I signed up was that I wanted to see one of these amazing amulets up close and personal.

So imagine my delight when I was contacted that I had won.

I was even more delighted when it came.

It is even better than I hoped.

My head began swimming with possibility.

So the first thing I did was to get out my 3 favorite materials to work with: silk strips, polymer beads and waxed linen cord.

And quickly, this came together.

The amulet is predrilled on either side but the cork was not so I tied my waxed linen cord through the holes on each side and this allowed the cork to still fit back on.

I love the colors of the one she sent me....

It goes perfectly with my handmade polymer clay beads...

I just did simple knotting with the cord and silk strips.

I prefer a necklace that is adjustable with the silk cords.

So there you have it....

My amulet reveal.  

I cannot wait to see the rest.

Turquoise Triple Strand Bracelet

Time for turquoise...

If your birthday is in December, it is your birth stone.

I love turquoise and am always drawn to buying it.

Then I hoard it and am afraid to use it.

Not anymore.

I am starting to use things that bring me joy.

Every day.

For no special reason.

Just because I love it.

I might even keep this one to wear myself.

I love triple strand bracelets...

I know I have not been posting as often.

Sometimes life throws a few curves into our carefully planned lives.

I always believe each difficulty I experience is a chance for learning and growth.

Art Queen Bee Set

It has been a busy week.

Our weather was HOT!

It finally cooled off which makes me begin to start rushing around like a squirrel gathering nuts for winter.

It was a busy weekend cleaning areas for the coming cold weather.

I can gleefully say the back porch and wood shed are winter ready.

Yay!

And inside I have been making beads.

So many beads from polymer clay.....

I have  new series planned and it is going to take lots of beads.

You may see some glimpses of them on an upcoming Workbench Wednesday.

For today, I am sharing this necklace and bracelet set I have made.

These are glass beads.

I did not make them.

They are knotted on waxed linen cord.

You know how I love to do that.

I think the blingy bottle cap is fun.

I use my homemade wire clasps.

I am liking my own better and better.

They suit my designs.

They are easy to use.

They add a little something to a piece.

When I first started my Etsy store, my husband made me a light box.

It worked ok, but often my photos had a yellow cast I could not quite get rid of even with some photo editing.

Now I take pictures on my front porch or the back porch depending on the time of day.

I love the look of the indirect natural light.

This set has a little multi strand bracelet as well.

The little crown dangle is a sweet addition.

Looking at these pictures makes me want to knot beads all day...

But work calls.

Beads will have to wait.
